Solar Collectors FAQs

How much free hot water will I get?
The systems installed consist of high efficiency solar collectors (usually roof mounted) that provide the primary heat source for hot water heating. In the UK a typical system can provide up to 100% of the hot water required for the summer, 50-60% in autumn and spring and around 20% in the winter period. The ""free energy" of the sun can provide up to 70% of a households annual hot water requirement delivering significant savings in energy.

Does the collector have to go on the roof?
Not necessarily, it can be mounted on a wall or on the ground.

What if my roof doesn't face South?
Our highly efficient collectors work on East/West facing roofs as well as South.

I have a flat roof!
As long as there is a suitable point to mount the panels, there is standard bracketing that allows them to be mounted at the correct angle. They need to be facing in a general southerly direction without any significant barriers between it and the the sun such as trees or other houses.

Can I use my existing Hot Water Cylinder?
In some cases we can use our unique "thermix plumbing conversion kit".  As the thermix kit allows you to keep features of your old system, installation and system costs are greatly reduced.

Can I have solar panels with my combi boiler?
You must have a hot water cylinder so that the water that has been heated by the sun can be stored for when you need to use it.

Does it work when it's cloudy?
Yes, the collector absorbs the suns radiation diffused by the clouds.

How much will it cost?
Prices start at under £3000

Is planning permission required?
Planning permission is seldom required, however ring your local planning department for confirmation.

Will they heat my swimming pool?
Yes, they will certainly help raise the temperature of your pool.
